Research and work topics: Sam has conducted a series of conservation projects focusing on highly threatened mammal species, and works closely with ZSL's EDGE of Existence programme, which prioritises species for conservation on the basis of threat and unique evolutionary history. He has a particular interest in using local ecological knowledge as a conservation tool, and is involved with interview surveys to assess the distribution and status of saola in Lao PDR and Vietnam.
